The genteel Victorian spa town of Harrogate gets a new hotel with the opening this month of the Balmoral Hotel. Aside form the Hotel du vin (which opened back in 2003), Harrogate lacks decent boutique hotels in its city centre. Perhaps this will set a new precedent.
The look will be clubby with open fires, Chesterfield sofas, dark wood floors and Regency striped wallpaper mixed with the requisite WiFi, LCD plasma screen televisions and 24-hour room service.
The hotel’ restaurant, the Harrogate grille (sister to the Hoxton Grille) will serve breakfast and steak-and-chips style dinners and more than 20 wines by the glass (70 by the bottle) with a two-course children’s menu and members’ cocktail bar.
Doubles from £145 room only. www.balmoralhotel.com.
