Staying at a luxury hotel tends to come at a cost, but the Hoxton Urban Lodge in London offers a unique concept in affordable comfort and style.
Based in the East ends trendy Hoxton area, the hotel is the latest venture from one of he pioneers behind the Prêt A Manger sandwich chain, Sinclair Beecham.
After we checked in, my cousin Claire and I decided to chill out in the lobby area, which is unlike any other I have seen in a hotel.
To each side of the glass fronted façade is a vast fireplace surrounded by sumptuous leather sofas and tables, where waitresses serve you coffee, cocktails and bar snacks at your seats, should you want them.
This area is obviously a favourite meeting haunt for the young and trendy of Hoxton, as is the hotel’s laid back restaurant/bar to the rear called the Hoxton Grille.
Though within the hotel, it is an independent venture from the behind the acclaimed Room Restaurants. It is described as “ a touch of Parisian chic mixed with a New York vibe”, and the description suits it well, all dark wood floor and tables, leather sofas, chrome topped bar and industrial décor.
