Wrapping itself around a hotel courtyard with an olive tree as its focus, Hoxton Grille turns its back on the frantic & boozy side of the Shoreditch scene to create a relaxed haven. The brick and brown leather décor is a touch on the bland side but the dining room is already proving very popular never-the less. The cooking is hearty but refined; all the dishes we tried were near faultless & all were dispatched with admirable efficiency. Tangy potted shrimps with a fresh lime mayo to start followed buy a gamey grilled lamb steak with Provencal vegetables. The wine list is eclectic, kicking off with a £13.95 || Banchetto house red or white from the Veneto before climbing steadily in price to the reserve list, though even here prices aren’t stratospheric. The only disappointment was the drinks from the bar, including a brave, but misguided, Red Pepper Caipirinha.
