It's amazing to think that until now London's most creative district, Shoreditch, had been sadly lacking in the style stakes when it comes to hotels. Pret a Manger founder Sinclair Beecham's latest venture has changed all that. Expect Frette linen and sumptuous duck down duvets in the bedrooms, Pears soap and The White Company in the bathroom. Downstairs the impressive lobby, complete with roaring fireplace, is dotted with cool contemporary pieces. The bar and restaurant, The Hoxton Grille, wraps itself around the hotel courtyard with an olive tree plonked in the middle where you can pop out for a cig (this is a non-smoking hotel), creating a relaxed haven to sup on hearty fare like grilled lamb steak and Provencal vegetables. This newcomer is a winner and offers amazingly cheap rates.
