Created by Sinclair Beecham, co-founder of the Pret A Manger chain of sandwich shops, the 205-room Hoxton, which opened last month, claims to be London's first 'luxury budget' hotel.
WHAT IT'S REALLY LIKE...
Stylistically, think Design Hotel Lite - from a neo-baronial fireplace in the lobby, to colour-coded corridors with metallic ceilings. It's trying (perhaps a little too hard) to be trendy.
Erected on the site of a former car park on the northern fringes of the City, it is close to the hip bars of the Hoxton district, as well as convenient for the business people in the Square Mile. Contemporary music fills public areas morning to night. The bar and informal restaurant (which is run separately from the hotel, but does palatable, brasserie-style dishes) are buzzy in the evening.
Bedrooms are smart and really comfy, with top-quality bedding, soft, fluffy towels, excellent showers and flat screen TVs.
